About Ma’an: Ma’an is a grassroots Arab organization based and founded in Beer Sheva in 2001, and led by Arab women activists, Ma’an is rooted in the community that it serves. It is uniquely qualified to support, work with, empower, and advocate for Arab Bedouin women and women’s rights activists, and to lead the design and implementation of project activities to empower Bedouin Arab women in the Negev. Through cooperative advocacy, strategic litigation, and awareness rising, Ma’an works with the women from the Arab-Bedouin community so they can participate and contribute to society as equal citizens. Our work enhances cooperation between civil society actors advocating gender equality, and provides legal leverage for the enforcement of domestic and international law relating to women’s rights.  Ma’an is nonpartisan, working with many groups and organizations, and we aim solely to improve the lives of Arab-Bedouin women living in the Naqab.

About the Project: Funded by the UN Women and implemented by Ma’an, The Forum of Arab Women Organizations in the Negev, this research project aims to investigate the living conditions and socio-economic status of women from the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, who have been married and live in the Naqab, inside Israeli borders. The research project aims to reveal the complexity of these women’s conditions, and the ways different patriarchal systems intersect in controlling an all aspects of women’s lives.


Selected translator will need to work under a deadline pressure, preserving the meaning of the original language and ensuring that the target language is lively ,free or jargon, and clear to a intelligent reader who may not be an expert in the subject. The translator should excel at translating the vocabulary of at least of the Gender and Development area. The selected candidate must commit to completing and submitting the final assignment by Monday, March 20, 2017.


Experience: An ideal candidate must have at least 3 years  experience translating texts in the International Development are of other related fields (ex. Gender, poverty reduction,  crisis prevention, capacity development …etc).

Education: A successful candidate must have a secondary degree in translation or foreign languages.

Other Criteria: Candidates must have Native/Fluent Arabic and English language skills and must be able to demonstrate a strong ability to translate specialized texts under deadline pressure.

Interested candidates should submit the following:

-        Resume/CV

-        One sample of recent, relevant translation work. Sample should be no longer than 1 page

-        A list of three references

-        The fee for translation of one standard page (250 words) from Arabic to English. The fee must be expressed in US Dollars.

Tender guidelines: The selection of successful candidates will be based on a combination of ability, experience and price.
